I am happy and humbled at how well Salvage Love did.  I sold almost everything I had made and already have some custom order requests.  It was such a fun event to be a part of and I am so glad I did it and look forward to the next event!

Somerville Open Studios

I am very excited to be participating in this years Somerville Open Studios on May 5th & 6th from 12PM-6PM.

What is the Somerville Open Studios you ask? Here is a brief description from the SOS website:

"Somerville Open Studios (SOS) is a non-profit organization formed for the purpose of producing an annual open studio and related events in Somerville, Massachusetts.

Through its programming, SOS gives access to the work of visual artists living and working in the city of Somerville. We provide opportunities to view art made within the community; to interact with local artists; and to have access to artists' working spaces. Our goal is to broaden the public's exposure to, and appreciation of, finished works of art as well as the art-making process. This exposure both educates the community and raises awareness of the diverse artistic experience available in Somerville."

Sounds like fun, huh? Well, it really is!  This will be my first year participating, but I attended the event the last two years. Basically, artists in Somerville open up their homes and studios for the public to come see and if they want, purchase their work.  The website is a great resource, and you can plan your routes ahead of time by searching artists by medium, area, name, etc.  There are downloadable maps on the website and hard copies all around Somerville showing the spots of participating artists and orange balloons in front of their spaces to help guide you as well.  Don't love walking? Somerville will be providing free trolleys to take you to and from different parts of the city! It is very well organized and is a lot of fun.  So, if you are in the area, please stop by and say hello and check out some amazing work from our local artists.

All Of The Lights

I have been tinkering around and fixing up old lamps lately. Apparently, you can transform almost anything into a lamp with some imagination, a hanging light kit and some items you would never think would be associated with a lamp.  The lamp projects below are some of my favorites.

Adobe Kuler | Color Palette Inspiration

Sometimes I need a little (or a lot) of help when choosing color palettes for projects. I get inspired by nature, an outfit or a photo and want to grab the colors out and mix them together, but can’t always seem to get it just right. Enter Adobe Kuler. This amazing application is user friendly and allows you to browse color palettes made by others, create your own by endlessly tweaking color selections or by uploading a photo to grab the color elements you want to create a palette.     You can use Kuler for inspiration for graphic design,  color schemes for a room, paint colors, craft ideas, photography, and so much more.   To use Kuler you can go directly to their site.  If you have the Adobe Creative Suite, you can download Switchboard from Adobe Labs and export a color scheme straight into Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. They also have an app for Android users and are developing one for the iPhone/iPad. Head on over to Kuler and start having some fun!

Unconventional Jewelry Displays

I have been looking for a way to hold and display my jewelry that was both beautiful and functional. Right now, I have all of my jewelry tangled up in an ugly box and it just isn't working out for me or them.  After doing a little research, I found so many different ideas that now I can't decide what I should do! You can find many of these items in your closet, at thrift stores, flea markets, eBay, Etsy or just right of outside of your home.  Below are some of my favorites.  I think I need some more jewelry...

Recycling Denim

How many pairs of jeans do you own that are too old or don't fit? I know I have quite a few.  What to do with those old jeans? Well, there are many options.  You can make them into something new or you can donate them to the fantastic organization, Cotton. From Blue to Green. They take your old denim and turn it into insulation for houses built for Habitat for Humanity.  Check out a few of my favorite denim rehabs below!
